Update – Summer 2019

It’s been a long time since we’ve updated, and a lot has changed.

For us as a family, we’re getting ready to welcome baby#2 into the world – he’s a boy, and he should be here early September. Honestly, Cohen is the greatest man that’s ever lived, and we are just so excited to do it again :). Sheri’s doing well. As the Atlanta-area lead mobilizer for Perspectives classes and a second baby well on the way, she’s got a lot on her plate. But it is no doubt encouraging to see the fruit start to come from what the Lord has entrusted to her.

My role at Adventures has shifted pretty significantly! Adventures is relooking at where we send our participants, as well as how we train and equip them – and I’m pretty heavily involved in that process!

I now oversee all of our route design for all programs. This basically means I’ve been given the permission and responsibility to look at where we’re going, why we’re going there, when we’re going there, and how we’re training our participants to engage in ministry in those places. I’ve had the opportunity to help rebuild our internal processes and systems to better allow us as an organization to address the reality of where “mission” is still needed, the assets and hindrances of our current organizational reality, and the changing demographics of our participants. I’m incredibly proud of the direction we’re going as an organization, and the routes and ministry engagements we’re starting to focus on – routes that really maximize the World Race’s potential.

Additionally, I’ve been given a continually increasing opportunity to train our participants on all things mission-related. This has been one of the most fruitful things I’ve ever done. At the last Training camp, we built in material around a strong Biblical foundation of God’s mission to reconcile all people groups to Himself, the current state of world missions, cultural values and the nuances of ministering cross-culturally, as well as teaching around how to contextualize the Gospel to different cultural lenses and religious groups. I’ve also had the opportunity to help lead a whole staff-wide training on mission and missiology. It has MASSIVELY affected the passion, value, and feeling of preparedness of our staff, leaders, and participants, and it is hugely exciting to watch, in anticipation of the fruit to come. It’s so encouraging to see the organization rally around effective missional engagement to a whole new level of value, passion, and understanding.

All this has given us the increased ability to steward the vision of our ministry partners, steward our participants, streamline our organizational processes and vision, bring financial and program alignment throughout the organization, better train and equip our participants, and send our participants to areas of greater need. Praise the Lord!

No doubt, things have been great! But also… really difficult. There are a lot of moving pieces, a rapidly changing social climate, and a lot of really passionate people involved. Pray for continued resolve as an organization to follow where the Lord is leading with intention and dilligence.

But overall, we have been greatly encouraged. It has been, in a lot of ways, one of the most personally affirming times of my life, especially here at the office. But there’s still a lot left to do, still a lot of moving pieces left to fall into place.

Additionally, we’re in need of some additional support to make our fundraising goals for the year. We’ve been incredibly blessed with a solid monthly support base for the last few years, to the extent that we haven’t had to really do this in a while.

We’re projected to be about $1000 short on our fundraising goal this year, and are in need of about $130 of monthly support (plus a little extra). Please reach out and consider supporting us, you can do it here in the links to the left.

Much love!
